One on one "traditional" midwifery relationships --  It is our desire to provide you the kind of care that provides support, friendship and knowledge to help you have the kind of birth that women were meant to have.  We include the father and siblings in our care and at the birth--wanting you to have a long-lasting experience that makes your family close and loving.  Thalia has back-up midwives working with her to ensure that you will get a birth attendant that you are comfortable with and that you know.    Complete Prenatal care--the midwives of Childbirth Services provide care that includes but is not limited to regular prenatal check-ups, order lab work needed during normal, low-risk pregnancy, monitoring of the mother and baby, and guidance about proper nutrition and exercise.   Well-woman care and well-baby care until six weeks after the birth are part of our services.  This includes the newborn screen (PKU) done on the baby, weighing the baby, filing the birth certificate, doing a pap smear and whatever other thing need attention during this precious time.   Childbirth Classes--classes are offered every other month--a series of two or three classes to round-out the information you get at each prenatal and to help you prepare for the coming labor and birth.  We cover what to expect as labor begins, what the support people in your life can do to help, the actual physical changes that take place during labor, the birth of the baby, how to care for your newborn, breast feeding tips and helps, and we seek to answer all your questions.   Library, handouts and other resources -- we are eager to share with you our large lending library of birth related books.  We give you handouts at various significant roadmarks of your pregnancy and we help you educate yourself to have the best birth possible.   Waterbirths -- we have a wonderful jacuzzi tub at the birth center and can help you get a tub and the necessary hoses for a waterbirth in your home.  While many women choose not to actually birth in the water--the therapy of weightlessness and buoyancy is awesome as an aid to relaxation during labor.   Hablo espanol -- While we are not all fluent in Spanish, we have intrepretors to help us and we all know enough Spanish to calm and reassure the women and their families.  We have many articles, books and other information available in Spanish as well.
